Oh, River is not a morning person, but this prank requires some dedication and preparation.  She has her sonic screwdriver set to wake her an hour before the alarm, and she'd packed the blanket and the picnic basket the afternoon before while he was out running.

The matter of the prank itself is a simple few moments with the screwdriver on the red setting.  Quick.  Harmless.  And best of all, reversible. 

She still expects to get a bit of a hiding for it, but he did throw down the gauntlet.  Her cheeks ache from grinning at the very thought of the look on his face when he figures out just what she'd done.

Prank accomplished, she slips into her boots and shushes Damocles, swearing him to silence.  Rather, bribing him with future promises of bacon.  She leaves the note on the pillow and catches herself just before she kisses him on the cheek.  If he wakes, the surprise will be ruined before she can make her escape. 

Dear Richard~

Have been kidnapped by rabbits.  They said something about their pelts being used for "unseemly" purposes. Their leader says, if you ever want to see me again, come alone.

Richard blinks.

"If you're sure," he says, vaguely puzzled and curious all at once. The rabbit gets hefted out of the fire and away from both of them so its drippings don't burn anyone.

"I'm hungry," she explains, nestling the wine bottle into a small depression in the grass. "It was a bit of a hoof to get here, and I was hungry when we left."

She's holding both wine glasses now, waiting for him.

This requires some shuffling of what's in what hand. The knife gets sheathed, the spit gets put into that hand which then offers it to her as he reaches out with the now free hand to take the wine.

"It's hot." And rather on the rare side, but he suspects she knows the latter.

"Thank you." She takes the spit, taking a deep whiff and humming her approval. "Smells delicious."

Carefully, she holds the stem of the wineglass in her fingers, and the end of the spit between her thumb and hand. She manages to strip off a hind leg, wincing at the heat. She blows on it for a few moments before sinking her teeth in.

Seems his woman appreciates rabbit on the rare side.

Richard's head is tilted as he watches her.

"I think I love you."

She rolls her eyes at him, but there is a definitely a flush of colour in her cheeks at his words.

"Eat your breakfast, you."

She sips her wine and watches him, a secret smile on her lips. The one she only ever smiles for him.

He grins a little smugly and tugs his own rabbit to him. He lets it drip free a moment over the still sizzling bacon, adding flavour.

He doesn't bother to rip anything off, just carefully nibbles a hot strip free and chews.

Plaid rabbits are definitely the best tasting.

They eat in companionable silence, and River wasn't lying when she said she was hungry. She strips the carcass clean and only throws a few scraps to Damocles.

When there's a lull, she bumps him gently and clinks the rim of her glass against his. "To us."

Richard rescues the bacon part way through, as well, giving Dam his share and splitting his own with River.

"To us."

When she's done with her portion, she finishes her wine and sets the glass aside before rising. She looks back at him, considering for a long moment, before kneeling to spit another rabbit, laying it across the flames. That done, she takes their first round over to the refuse pile.

She comes back, and settles next to him with the bread and cheese. This time she leans in to whisper against his ear, her voice pitched low. "Thought you might still be hungry."

"You know me so well," he murmurs back, lipping her ear.

He's very lucky, isn't he?

She shivers at the touch of his mouth, her head curling towards his. "I would know you even better, my love. Before the day gets too much older."

"I can get one of the blankets out," he offers. The den may not hold them, but the ground certainly can.

He should have thought of that sooner.

She purrs her approval of this idea against the side of his neck, already nuzzling, her tongue darting out to taste the salt of his skin.

"Finish your breakfast."

Her scent whispers to him.

"I'm afraid I'm a little distracted, love."

Cheese is about the last thing on his mind when she starts doing that.

She withdraws just a hair, so that only her breath is touching him. "Shall I go stand over there? Maybe have Dam show me the perimeter?"

"If you like. Don't have to. Not much to see, really."

He's leaning after her just a bit.

Her breath is warm against his cheek as she leans in again. She's grinning now, just letting the tip of her nose touch the curve of his ear lobe.

"You've only had the one, love. I don't want you to go -- hungry."

"I've been hungry before." Very true. And he usually has his morning run before he eats.

He can't decide whether to sniff her or taste her. Both works nicely, he's found.

She turns her head to meet his kiss, but lightly, teasing. Leaning in for a gentle mouthful and then just out of reach again, smiling against his lips. She's leaning her weight on one hand and the other comes up to toy with his collar.

"Are you hungry now?"

"Always," he rumbles at her, putting his hands behind him to support his weight.

She has to concede this round to him, as the taste of his mouth is only making her hungrier. And she craves him, how she craves him. She still takes her time, sinking into the feel of him, letting her tongue and lips savour his.

Between each kiss, a gentle breath, and each breath grows shorter in duration as she is unwilling to be parted from him for even a moment.

He rumbles his appreciation at her, pulling at her lips with his mouth, savouring her kisses. He eases down the rest of the way, slowly, the twig in his back being ignored for now.

Once he's down, he starts bringing his hands up her sides, caressing, exploring for gaps in the fabric.

She grins as she follows him down, her breath coming faster, never breaking the kiss. She shifts, rising to straddle his leg, her hands on the earth beside his head, her knee between his thighs.

She shivers and moans softly as his hands find bare skin beneath the hem of her blouse.

He kisses her, caressing her sides, straining his abs to curl up and be closer to her.

His hands creep higher, tracing swirling patterns on her skin.
