[oom] New Moon
She's standing at the window, looking out over the Scottish landscape, watching the night sky. The moon is new, and without the competing light, the stars are spectacular. River kneels up on the window seat and touches the controls that bring the opacity down to zero. Starlight isn't as bright as moonlight, but it's still enough that she can make out the horizon. The landscape is stunning.
She settles back, sitting on her heels, arms crossed over her chest, hands rubbing her upper arms, smiling up at the night sky.
He said yes.
He said yes.
She can't help but wonder... What comes next?

She knows he's hungry, so she picks up a fork and tucks in.
"So you'll never guess who I met in the bar today. Another Time Lord. Romana, Ray's wife?"
no subject
The dinner is really good, though... "Are the paradoxes still on the counter?"
no subject
She knows him well enough by now to know to serve the food he brings home.
"It went well. She's a lovely woman," she says. "Though now I know why he's so familiar with the sonic screwdriver technology. I remember him mentioning in passing that she was from Gallifrey, but I don't think it really occurred to me that she was from that Gallifrey."
no subject
"I can understand that. I'm rather more likely to key in on words like 'Time Lord' myself."
no subject
"Love? What are those, exactly? They smell oddly enticing."
no subject
"Try one."
no subject
She takes a bite. Immediately her brow furrows. "Oh that's..." She takes another bite. "Mmm. How very odd."
She takes a drink of her wine and smirks at him. "It's the perfect bar food. A little crispy, a little salty, a little doughy." She takes another sip. "And it makes you want to drink more."
no subject
"By all means, don't let me stop you." He takes a generous sip of his wine as well.
He may be considering abusing the fact that he doesn't get drunk easily.
no subject
And yet, she finishes the second one, and her first glass of wine, giving him a playful tap as he watches her set the glass down.
"Besides, don't want to spoil my dessert."
There might be the tiniest bit of a leer in her eyes at that.
no subject
"And what's for dessert?" he asks, sniffing curiously.
no subject
"Guess you'll just have to wait and see."
no subject
Look at those puppy dog eyes.
(He's really bad at puppy dog eyes.)

She leans one elbow on the table and idly strokes a finger down the side of her neck.

Mint ice cream is completely unnecessary at this stage.
He pokes her foot with his toe.
no subject
"Unless of course, you want mint ice cream," she teases, looking at him through her lashes as she takes another bite of her steak.
Her bare foot brushes along his, teasing along his arch.
no subject
He restrains the shiver that passes through him, instead curling his toes under.
"Unless you prefer I was less distracted?" It doesn't seem likely.
no subject
Perhaps it's the glass of wine that's making her cheeks flush, but she thinks not.
no subject
"As long as you understand there may be consequences to your actions."
no subject
She fills her glass again and offers to fill his.
"Serious ramifications, hmm?"
no subject
"That entirely depends on what your planning."
no subject
She holds her glass up for a toast.
"If you're willing, I think I'm ready to makes some waves."
Even though the tone of her voice is steady, her scent ripples with a certain wildness.
no subject
He reaches for his glass, fingering the stem.
"Tonight?"
no subject
"Unless you have some compelling reason to wait..."
no subject
Is he really going to do this? He certainly believes what you lose is well worth what you gain, but will she? He knows she thinks she does and that she's done the research, but how can either of them be so sure this is what she wants?
He frowns a little more. She's done the research, more than he could have ever imagined possible. She knows as well as anyone can without being bitten what she's getting into. He can smell on her her much she wants this.
And the truth is, if it all works out? He wants this too.
He lifts his glass. "No. No reason."
no subject
She extends her glass to meet his.
"To us." The ring of crystal against crystal is as loud as a bronze bell in her ears.
